From International student to Full-Time Day Trader — How I Did It (And How You Can Too)

👋 My Story: From Domino’s Worker to Full-Time Trader
When I landed in Australia in 2018, I had less than $2,000 and no idea how I’d cover university fees and rent.
I worked at Domino’s and delivered pizzas.
But after hours, I was studying something completely different: how to day trade.
Fast forward to today, and I’m living the Australian citizen dream, trading full-time from my laptop here in Brisbane, Australia.
🚀 Why Trading Makes Sense for International Students
Here’s why trading was a game-changer for me—and why it can be for you:
⏳ Trade late in the evening (UK and US markets are perfect)
📅 Super flexible: I spend just 1–1.5 hours per day
💸 You don’t need thousands to start—you can begin with just $200
✅ Skill-based, not luck-based, so you can control your success
📊 What Is Day Trading (In Simple Words)?
Day trading means buying and selling financial assets (like stocks or options) within the same day.
I personally focus on SPY options. SPY represents the S&P 500 index, which tracks the top 500 U.S. companies.
I trade during the most active hours of the market (11:30 PM to 1:00 AM AEST) and look for quick 5–10 minute setups that are both predictable and profitable.
❓ Most Students Ask:
"Can I lose all my money?"
Only if you treat trading like gambling. With strict risk management. If you set a $20 loss limit, that’s all you risk.
"Do I need to be good at math or finance?"
Not at all. Just focus on patterns, levels, and price reversals. It’s simple and repeatable.
"How long will it take to learn?"
Depends on each individual but most students understand the basics within 1 to 3 sessions if I'm teaching one on one.
⚡ What You Need to Get Started:
💻 Laptop + Wi-Fi
📧 Free broker account (I’ll help you open it)
⏳ 1–1.5 hours of focus at night
🏋️ A notebook or trading journal (digital or paper) to track your trades
🔐 Real Strategy. No Hype. No Flash.
Unlike YouTube “gurus” who sell fake dreams, I like to keep trading simple and real:
🎮 Only trade when there’s a clear setup—no randomness.
❎ No overtrading—I limit myself to max 2 trades per day.
✉️ Exit at break-even if I’m uncertain—no emotions involved.
📓 I track every trade in my journal for continuous improvement.
👀 Simple Trade Example:
Let’s say you buy an option at $100 near a key support level.
Later, you sell it for $300 when it reaches a key resistance level.
Entry: $100
Exit: $300
Profit: $200
This is how quick and effective it can be with the right strategy and discipline.
📊 Final Word: This Changed My Life. It Can Change Yours Too.
I didn’t come from money. I didn’t have a background in finance. I was an international student just like you.
Good luck with your trading journey.
Keep trading,
Ani Sharma
